 Welcome to the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia.

prof bibThe School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia is located on the main campus of Universiti Sains Malaysia which is on the island of Penang, off the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It was established in 1972 and is the first pharmacy school in Malaysia.

The undergraduate program has undergone several intensive revisions since the early days. It is an innovative curriculum that is in line with the current trends in pharmaceutical education and the nation’s need for its pharmaceutical services. The multidisciplinary and integrated approach in pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical technology, pharmacology, physiology, clinical pharmacy and social and administrative pharmacy prepare our graduates to be skilled, professional, ethical, leaders and sustainable as drug specialists of the new millennium.

The School’s current facilities include modern lecture halls, computer laboratories and well-equipped teaching and research laboratories. Clinical training is provided at the Penang General Hospital and the University’s teaching hospital in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. Students at these hospitals benefit from real world experiences in a variety of clinical settings, where the practical components of clinical pharmacy are carried out.

Postgraduate training through research mode in all disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences is also available. The postgraduate program of the School has attracted both local and foreign students. Over the last decade, there has been a tremendous increase in research activities, some in close collaboration with local research institutions and or with foreign universities. The research environment is further enhanced by the availability of the state of arts instrumentation and equipment.

The school also offers postgraduate degrees in clinical pharmacy by course work and mix-mode and there are plans to offer higher degrees in clinical pharmacy in specialised areas.

The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is supported by well qualified and experienced faculty members whose expertise in research and teaching is well accepted locally and internationally.

All in all, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences have produced graduates who have been instrumental in the development of the pharmacy profession in Malaysia and those from overseas in their respective countries.
