Balamurugan Tangiisuran, Assoc. Prof. Dr.

Assoc. Prof. Dr Balamurugan Tangiisuran is an accomplished Associate Professor in academia with a strong background in leadership roles, including serving as Director at the Malaysian National Poison Centre in 2020-2021, Programme Chairman of the Discipline of Clinical Pharmacy in 2016-2017 and Vice Principal of the Malaysia Academic of Pharmacy in 2021-2023. He is a researcher specialising in clinical pharmacy, medication safety, and geriatric pharmacy. Dr. Balamurugan holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from USM and a PhD from Brighton and Sussex Medical School, UK, and has been appointed Visiting Senior Lecturer at King's College London. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Drug Information at the National Poison Centre. Dr. Balamurugan has a proven track record of spearheading strategic development, building team culture, and delivering rigorous academic and research experiences. He is skilled in establishing professional partnerships and managing projects in a corporate environment. He welcomes the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss research collaboration with anyone who is seeking a dynamic and results-driven leader in clinical pharmacy, medication safety, geriatric pharmacy, research, and education. 

  • Research activities primarily focus on the main themes related to clinical pharmacy, particularly in medication use and safety among the geriatric population. In addition, Dr. Balamurugan is also involved in practice-based research and epidemiological studies.
