Myristica fragrans or the nutmeg tree, is a tropical evergreen tree native to the Spice Islands (Maluku) of Indonesia. It produces two spices: nutmeg (the seed) and mace (the seed covering). Both have been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Here are some of the medicinal uses of pokok pala: 

Medicinal Uses of Pokok Pala:

  1. Digestive Aid
  • Used to relieve indigestion, bloating, diarrhoea, and flatulence.
  • Stimulates appetite and promotes digestion.
  1. Pain Relief
  • Contains myristicin and eugenol, which have mild analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Applied in balms or oils to ease joint pain, muscle aches, and toothache.
  1. Sleep Aid & Sedative
  • Traditionally used to treat insomnia.
  • A pinch of nutmeg powder in warm milk is a common remedy to promote better sleep.
  1. Respiratory Relief
  • Acts as a natural decongestant.
  • Used in traditional remedies for coughs, cold, and asthma.
  1. Oral Health
  • Nutmeg oil is sometimes used in dental care products due to its antibacterial properties.
  • Freshens breath and combats oral bacteria.
  1. Liver and Kidney Support
  • Some traditional systems believe it supports detoxification of the liver and kidneys.
  1. Aphrodisiac

Traditionally believed to enhance libido and sexual function.
