Ficus racemosa is a low-growing wild herb commonly found in Malaysia. Though often regarded as a weed, this plant has long been used in traditional medicine for various ailments.

Medicinal Uses of Pokok Ara Lempung:

  1. Treating Warts and Skin Conditions
  • The leaves and stems contain a white sap with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
  • Traditionally, the plant is crushed and applied topically to treat warts, rashes, and itchiness caused by allergies.
  1. Relieving Gout and Joint Pain
  • A decoction (boiled water extract) made from the whole plant is believed to help alleviate symptoms of gout and joint pain.
  • The plant contains compounds such as myricyl alcohol, taraxerol, and beta amyrin, which have anti-inflammatory effects that can help reduce swelling and pain.
  1. Respiratory Relief (Asthma, Cough)
  • In traditional practices, the plant is used to treat asthma, coughs, and sore throats.
  • The whole plant is boiled and the water consumed to ease respiratory symptoms.
  1. Enhancing Breast Milk Production
  • Among breastfeeding mothers, decoctions of this plant are believed to help increase milk supply.
  • However, it should be used with caution, and it's advised to consult a healthcare professional before use.
  1. Treating Cataracts (Traditional Belief)
  • The sap has been used traditionally to treat cataracts, though this practice is risky and not recommended without medical supervision.
